Post covid flexible working

Employee Benefits’ Wickens wrote how 42% of employers plan to reduce flexibility for staff in 2024. This is a shame because it could alienate people from jobs, even careers that they are able to access through the current levels of flexibility.

Reducing flexible working trends could make jobs with flexible working arrangements more attractive. Similarly, this could make companies who intend to continue flexible working more attractive to candidates.

Personally, as I have progressed in my short career, flexible working is something I keep a keen eye on when applying, and expect that to continue to be the case, especially as someone with neurodiversity.

Commitment at work

Zoe Wickens of Employee Benefits wrote how 64% of HR professionals feel employee engagement or commitment has fallen or remained static in past year.

Make sure you are looked after and rewarded properly in your company. This may increase voluntary willingness to commit to reaching or even exceeding targets. If you’re not looked after or not willing to commit, are you in the right job?

I find myself changing jobs when I would like a new challenge and to feel more rewarded.

Union win +£428 monthly for staff

Source: Wickens, 2022.

Amazing win for German’s pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit against German airline Lufthansa on the basis no strikes will take place until June-2023.

Clearly in the wrong profession as a career advisor! Seriously, massive win for the pilots from entry level receiving 20% more basic pay and captains 5.5% more. A great agreement for both parties. UK have something to learn from Germany’s level of Union involvement, collaboration and employee voice!
